According to the count of population made in 2001, the number of citizens in Ploce is 10.834 (5.333 male and 5.501 female). The age structure is as following: younger than 19 27,21%, 20-59 54,15%, and older than 60 18,64%. According to the same list 95.12% Croats, 1.65% Serbs and 3.23% of other ethnic groups live in Ploce.
In December 1992, by decision of Croatian Parliament, Ploce got the status of the city in the Dubrovacko - Neretvanska county with the major and elected representatives in the city hall. Area of the city includes settlements: Bacina, Banja, Komin, Ploce (Stablina, Birina and city area), Peracko Blato, Plina Jezero, Rogotin, Stasevica and Saric Struga.
There are following cultural - educational facilities in Ploce: Kindergarten (since 1959), Elementary School "Vladimir Nazor" (1947), Elementary Music School (1968), High School "Fra Andrija Kacic Miosic" (1953) which has been founded by merging of three smaller high schools.
On the territory of the city is also active Cultural Association "Ploce" (1953.) which includes folklore group and "klapa" (Mediterranean polyphonic chorus) "Luka" (1981.), Radio Club 9A1CDG, Brass Band (1970.), City Library (1963.), Art Workshop (1978.), Theater Group "Mariani" (1991.), Peoples University (1961.) and City Museum (1984.). Friends of Ploce Association is founded in 1993, and in 1994 Croatian Homeland Association was re-founded.
Ploce Church Community was founded in 1961. It is dedicated to the Holy Mother Mary, while the Pastoral centre is dedicated to St. Liberan. A new church is being built since 1999.
